Steven Asplund: “Concrete” looks to get back in the win column

Steven Asplund (7-2) earned his contract with a 16 second TKO over Guarascio on the Contender Series, then turned heads on debut by throwing 294 strikes in under ten minutes against Sean Sharaf, landing 154 out of 276 significant strikes en route to a Fight of the Night second-round stoppage. That is crazy volume for a heavyweight. However, in March he dropped a close decision to Vitor Petrino in a blood-soaked war that ended with him in hospital. He’s a marauder who walks forward and overwhelms people, with surprisingly fast hands for the division.

Guilherme Pat: “Kong” needs to remind everyone of his power

Guilherme Pat (6-1) was denied a US visa four separate times before he ever made it to the octagon, finally debuting in December 2025 with a shutout decision over the previously unbeaten Allen Frye Jr. The Brazilian boxes with his hands low and compensates with sharp head movement, running a nasty slip n rip counter game with genuine KO power that he carries deep into his fights. The wheels came off against Thomas Petersen though in April, a majority decision defeat in which he attempted just 42 total strikes across 15 minutes.

Steven Asplund vs Guilherme Pat prediction

In a matchup where we’ve seen Asplund utilise volume and cardio impressively before, and Pat almost relying on slipping and ripping a knockout, I have to lean towards Asplund. Pat has shown bad cardio and low volume, and this is exactly the kind of opponent Asplund can rack up a load of strikes against, given he doesn’t get knocked out in the pocket by Pat.

I can see the first round going to Pat. He’s going to land the cleaner shots on the feet and he starts far more consistently, whereas it takes time for Asplund to settle into the fight. Asplund should be able to absorb the shots and land some of his own, then start taking over in the second. For the build that Asplund has he’s got decent footwork, but he’s a marauder and a volume puncher - walking forward, putting it on and overwhelming you, whereas Pat prefers to fight on the outside.

The Petrino fight is evidence for Asplund’s durability. He ate some hard shots across the three rounds, got badly cut up, and still managed to swing until the final bell. That’s why I think he soaks up whatever Pat has, unless Pat catches him clean with a blind shot. This should be a good boxing fight, both men operate with their hands a lot. Asplund by late TKO or decision.

Prediction: Steven Asplund to win by decision
