Carlos Diego Ferreira: Still hitting hard at 41

Diego Ferreira (19-7) is a UFC mainstay of over a decade who is unmistakably on the back half of his career, going 0-2 in his last two after being knocked out by Alexander Hernandez in September, and dropping a decision to Grant Dawson at UFC 311. Before that though, he TKO’d Mateusz Rebecki and knocked out Michael Johnson. He remains a dangerous BJJ player with seven submission wins. The Brazilian loves a brawl, and when opponents enter the pocket he has no trouble sitting down, dipping his head, and swinging heavy shots.

Billy Quarantillo: Relentless pressure fighter returning at new weight

Billy Quarantillo (18-7) hasn’t fought since December 2024, when Cub Swanson slept him with a right hand in the third round. He was also submitted by Youssef Zalal earlier that year and knocked out inside a round by Edson Barboza in 2023. Now 37 and moving up to lightweight, Billy fights at a high pace and picks his opponents apart, pressing forward constantly, stomping to the knee and throwing leg kicks. He doesn’t mind switching stance but does most of his work in orthodox. His head movement isn’t the best and eats a lot of shots to the face.

Carlos Diego Ferreira vs Billy Quarantillo prediction

Both these men love a brawl and both want to press forward, and this car-crashing matchup favours Ferreira a lot more. Ferreira’s willingness to plant his feet and swing heavy when someone steps into the pocket should be enough to deter Billy from walking in the way he normally does, and in the open stance Diego can whip up nice body kicks too.

Billy Q drowned Hernandez in volume and finished him in the second at UFC 282, and Hernandez knocked out Ferreira last September. That was nearly four years ago though, and the Hernandez that stopped Diego was a better version than the one Billy beat.

Billy had a whole career where he was durable, but his recent fights suggest he’s lost that ability, and that’s why I have to side with Ferreira, who even at this age hits hard. The almost two years out may well have let his chin recover, but I don’t think he’s as used to the fire as Diego is, and I don’t believe he carries the one-punch power that Hernandez does. If Ferreira rocks him and gets this to the floor, he holds a huge advantage on the mat as the far superior BJJ player with a dangerous submission game.

If Ferreira doesn’t catch him in the first two rounds, I’d lean Billy Q by decision, but I don’t see it getting there.

Prediction: Diego Ferreira to win by KO/TKO in round one
