Cameron Rowston: "Battle Giraffe" looks to score his second victory in just over two months

Cameron Rowston (12-3) only earned a UFC contract on DWCS in August, but the “Battle Giraffe” is slated to make his Octagon debut just over a month since his last fight. While Rowston came up short in his first appearance on the Contender Series to Torrez Finney by unanimous decision, he’s been on a tear since. Blending ever-improving striking with a legitimately nasty ground game, the Australian has reeled off four straight wins since his last defeat, punctuating matters with a vicious beatdown over the previously undefeated Brandon Holmes to earn his spot in the UFC.

Andre Petroski: The TUF alum aiming to rebound after Edmen Shahbazyan put paid to his three fight winning streak

TUF export Andre Petroski (13-4) enters his latest contest off the back of a lackluster decision defeat to Edmen Shahbazyan, a loss that snapped what had been a three fight winning streak for the American. A meat-and-potatoes wrestle-boxer, Petroski does everything in firmly average style, despite his reputation as a superb grappler. He’s not great in any one area, but he doesn’t have any notably glaring weaknesses. Despite arriving in the UFC with three consecutive finishes, Petroski has become somewhat of a decision merchant in recent years; the American hasn’t scored a stoppage since 2022.

Cameron Rowston vs Andre Petroski prediction

Rowston got completely manhandled in the wrestling department by Torrez Finney on the Contender Series in his first appearance, meaning that the blueprint on how to beat “Battle Giraffe” is out there. However, is Petroski the man to emulate that game plan? The American won’t hunt takedowns with the same one-minded relentlessness as Finney, but he is an extremely good grappler.

It's also worth noting that despite earning his UFC spot off the back of a brutal TKO finish, “Battle Giraffe” has historically proven to be more of a submission threat throughout his career. Rowston has scored seven wins by tap out, including a title winning calf slicer victory in the immediate aftermath of his Contender Series defeat to Finney. Petroski isn't exactly Anderson Silva when it comes to striking, but he's got serviceable boxing and looks to be more than capable of holding his own against Rowston on the feet.

In short, Petroski looks to have an advantage wherever this fight takes place. While it's hard to erase the memory of him KO'ing himself by running face first into Jacob Malkoun's hip, the pick is for the American to mix up his boxing with well-timed takedowns to score the decision victory.

Prediction: Andre Petroski to win
