Jessica Andrade: Can "Bate Estaca" produce a vintage performance of old as her storied career draws to a close?
Once regarded as the heaviest hitter in the UFC's female weight divisions, former strawweight champion, Jessica Andrade (26-14), has fallen on hard times as of late. Chaining spiteful punch combinations to the head and body at her best, the Brazilian veteran boasts an array of brutal finishes to her name, a list that includes the likes of top contenders, Rose Namajunas, Mackenzie Dern, and Amanda Lemos. Unfortunately for "Bate Estaca," she has been nothing short of dismal since moving back up to flyweight just over a year ago, dropping a decision to Natalia Silva and getting strangled into submission by Jasmine Jasudavicius in her most recent appearance.

A well-rounded combatant with above average wrestling and serviceable volume striking, Lupita Godinez (13-5) enters fight week for UFC 319 looking for what would be the biggest win of her career by a considerable stretch. Owner of an 8-5 record since making her UFC debut in 2021, "Loopy" has never been finished and is currently ranked at No. 11 in the flyweight division. A four fight win streak in 2023 had many touting her as a potential future title challenger, only for Godinez to run into a two-fight skid against top contenders, Virna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern. However, she recently rebounded with a decision victory over Julia Polastri last time out.

Considering the current downward trajectory of Andrade's career, the odds are tighter than one might expect.
As with most fights that involve "Bate Estaca," this one likely comes down to whether Godinez can use superior wrestling to ground Andrade or pepper her at range for 15 minutes to nullify her considerable power advantage. With just three career stoppages to her name, "Loopy" has never proven to be much of a finishing threat. Accordingly, she could be in deep trouble if the Andrade of old shows up.
The rare WMMA fighter with legitimate one-punch KO power, the Brazilian is still hits absurdly hard and is more than capable of flatlining "Loopy" despite her torrid run of recent form. It's also worth noting the disparity in the pair's performances against mutual opponents in Mackenzie Dern and Cynthia Calvillo. Godinez dropped a clear decision to the BJJ wizard, while Andrade battered Dern from pillar to post for one of the worst beatdowns in WMMA history. Furthermore, "Loopy" may have bested Calvillo by split decision, but Andrade completely obliterated her.
The oddsmakers may be siding with Godinez, but she has yet to beat an opponent of Andrade's standing, even if the former champion has looked completely washed in her last two outings. Do not be shocked if she capitulates once again, but the tentative pick is for "Bate Estaca" to roll back the years and earn a stoppage on the feet.
