Edson Barboza: Striking Sensation looking to prove he’s still got it

Edson Barboza (24-12) is a name synonymous with highlight-reel finishes and brutal kicking attacks. The 39-year-old Brazilian lost his last bout in May 2024 to the undefeated contender Lerone Murphy in a one-sided featherweight clash that saw Barboza absorb heavy damage. Prior to that, he secured impressive wins over Sodiq Yusuff via decision and a devastating knee knockout against Billy Quarantillo.

Boasting an 18-12 UFC record, Barboza has faced elite names across both lightweight and featherweight divisions — including Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Dan Hooker and Tony Ferguson. The Brazilian is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous and explosive kickers in UFC history. However, his wrestling defence remains a vulnerability, and at 39, his speed and durability have clearly declined. To add to this, he hasn't fought in over a year, which raises further questions about his sharpness.

Drakkar Klose: American grit looking to bounce back

Drakkar Klose (15-3-1) brings solid UFC experience into this bout. The 37-year-old American is coming off a first-round knockout loss to the dangerous Joel Álvarez but had previously built momentum with a four-fight win streak, including victories over Rafa García and Joaquim Silva.

With a 9-3 UFC record and wins over respected fighters like Marc Diakiese, Lando Vannata and Bobby Green, Klose brings respectable Octagon experience himself. Known for his gritty, brawling style, he has leaned more on his grappling in recent fights, often looking to control opponents in clinches and on the mat rather than engage in extended striking exchanges.

Edson Barboza vs Drakkar Klose prediction

This is a fascinating clash between two veterans whose best days may be behind them, but who still have the tools to make for an entertaining bout. While Barboza is undeniably past his prime, his striking remains dangerous — especially against someone like Klose, who tends to get drawn into wild exchanges.

Klose may look to exploit Barboza’s long-standing issues with takedown defence, but unless he can secure consistent top control, the Brazilian’s more diverse and explosive striking arsenal should shine through. Given the level of opposition Barboza has faced over the years, he’ll also bring a wealth of experience into this one. I am leaning towards the Brazilian to get the job done and potentially call it a day on his UFC career, riding off into the sunset on one last high.

Prediction: Edson Barboza to win
