Baysangur Susurkaev: Khamzat Chimaev's teammate looks to write himself into the UFC history books with his second victory in the space of less than a week

A stablemate of current middleweight title challenger, Khamzat Chimaev, few people outside of MMA's hardcore fanbase had likely even heard the name Baysangur Susurkaev (9-0) before this week. However, in the words of Dana White, "if you don't know, now you know." A creative striker with ferocious finishing ability and scary levels of in-cage composure, the twenty four year old Chechen prospect earned a UFC contract on DWCS by obliterating Murtaza Talha in the first round last Tuesday with a vicious one-shot body kick. With eight of his nine wins coming by knockout, "Hunter" will set a record for the fastest turnaround in UFC history when he enters the cage on Saturday night.

Eric Nolan: Can "Night Time" successfully play spoiler in a matchup where many fans have already written his obituary?

Winner of four straight fights by KO, former Cage Fury Fighting Championships welterweight kingpin and former US Army Marine, Eric Nolan (8-3), makes his UFC debut with the vast majority of fans and pundits writing him off before he has even thrown a punch in the promotion. However, while the odds are heavily stacked against the American as he steps up a weight division for his first appearance, that's not to say that there isn't a path to victory for him here. A heavy-handed striker with five round championship experience on the regional scene, "Night Time" has consistently proven his ability to shut the lights off when opponents are happy to stand and trade with him.

Baysangur Susurkaev vs Eric Nolan prediction

While Nolan will no doubt be confident in his ability to upset the applecart and steal Susurkaev's spotlight, it's hard to escape the sensation that he is being led to the slaughter here.

Susurkaev fights with terrifying composure, marching forward relentlessly and decimating his opponents with barely a flicker of emotion. The fast-rising Chechen is one of the more hyped welterweight debutants in recent years, boasting an absurd 79" inch reach to complement his vicious striking arsenal. Only two opponents in his nine fight career to date have ever seen a second round when they were faced with "Hunter," and one of them still ended the fight as a bloody mess on the canvas by the time Susurkaev was done with him.

On the other side of the Octagon, Nolan undoubtedly possesses fight-stopping power and impressive grit; it's not out of the realms of possibility that he could find success by dragging Susurkaev into the later rounds and forcing him to swim in deep waters. Unfortunately, he's also moving up a weight class and has been finished by decidedly lesser competition on the regional scene; a concerning omen when faced with a prospect of his latest opponent's caliber.

The UFC are pushing Susurkaev heavily for a reason and bar one of the most shocking upsets in recent memory, he should shine here. As such, the safe pick is for "Hunter's" creativity, poise, and ruthless finishing instincts to take out Nolan early in highlight reel fashion.

Prediction: Baysangur Susurkaev to win by TKO
