Tommy Paul vs Quentin Halys prediction

Tommy Paul continued his fine form by dominating Daniel Merida 6-1, 6-1 on Wednesday. Coming off a straight-sets win over Holger Rune, Paul wasted no time in beating the young Spaniard, and he now takes on Frenchman Quentin Halys.

Halys overcame seventh seed Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 7-6, digging deep in the final set before edging the deciding tie-break 11-9.

He showed great character after an abysmal second set in which his game completely fell apart, responding impressively by getting a break back on Tiafoe late in the third and then winning the tie-break to close out an emotionally draining encounter.

That win clearly meant a lot to Halys, but it will also have taken a fair bit out of him as he returns on Thursday to face the in-form Paul.

The pair have never met on the ATP Tour, but they split a couple of Challenger matches back in 2015 and 2017, so it is very difficult to read anything into that.

Our feeling is that Halys’ win, and the manner of it, may well have taken a good chunk out of him physically and emotionally, and that may have been his final in many respects. It will not be easy against Paul, who has been incredibly efficient and is playing at a high level right now.

We fully expect Paul to dampen the partisan crowd and progress to the quarter-finals.
