Matteo Berrettini vs Ugo Humbert prediction

Matteo Berrettini had to dig deep against Brandon Nakashima, with the Italian edging a deciding-set tie-break to beat the 14th seed.

Berrettini will take good confidence from that win, although it will be interesting to see whether he can turn around quickly and go again in what could be another lengthy battle against Ugo Humbert.

Humbert had his own three-set battle as he edged past Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, with the Frenchman getting a boost in energy from the partisan crowd, which saw him through the deciding set.

Humbert is at his best when he is playing on the edge, and he has been lacking that in recent tournaments, but there were some positive signs in his opening-round performance.

The 28-year-old has lost three of his four meetings with Berrettini, but he did win their last encounter, on an indoor hard court in Stockholm in 2025.

With energy potentially in short supply, we can see Humbert feeding off the crowd, and it will not be easy for Berrettini to lift himself again. We marginally favour Humbert, but our preferred play here is on total games, as we can see this going the full three sets.
