Luca Van Assche vs Learner Tien prediction

Luca Van Assche picked up a straight-sets win over Mariano Navone in front of his home crowd on Monday, and he will have been pleased with his performance on the whole. He won 86% of points on his first serve and converted three of the six break points he generated to ease to a 6-3, 7-5 victory.

That will give him a good boost in confidence coming into this one, and he will need it, as he faced Learner Tien in Vienna just last week and was comprehensively beaten 6-3, 6-1, with Tien completely dominating that match. It will be interesting to see whether Van Assche can come up with anything different here.

Tien is coming off a hard-fought three-setter against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo on Tuesday. It was more complicated than many expected, but Tien produced the goods when it mattered most in the deciding set.

He can take plenty from the fact he dominated Van Assche last week, and he has to be favoured to beat him once again. It would be some turnaround for Van Assche to bridge such a gap in a week, and we expect Tien to progress to the Round of 16.
