Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti prediction

Fresh from being officially crowned the new world number one and receiving the trophy, Alexander Zverev will be keen to put down a marker this week.

Zverev has continued his good form since his US Open triumph, reaching the semi-finals in Shanghai and Vienna prior to this tournament. He also has a fine record in Paris, having won the title in 2024, finished runner-up in 2020 and reached the semi-finals in 2021 and last year, so it is a place where he has enjoyed plenty of success.

He gets under way on Wednesday against 24-year-old Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who had to dig deep to overcome Hubert Hurkacz 7-6, 7-6 on Monday in an incredibly close match with next to nothing separating the two players.

Musetti’s service game was outstanding in what he acknowledged as one of his best performances, and he did not face a single break point against the Pole. It will have to be that kind of level once again if he is to have any chance against Zverev.

Musetti actually leads the head-to-head 3-2, but it was Zverev who won their last meeting, on a hard court in Vienna last year. On his day, Musetti knows he can trouble Zverev, but the German looks a level above right now, and barring any complacency or rustiness, it is hard to see anything other than a Zverev win.
