Tommy Paul vs Daniel Merida prediction
Tommy Paul overcame Holger Rune 7-5, 6-4 on Tuesday with a strong display to move into the second round.
Paul played the tournament in Lyon a few weeks ago, where by all accounts the hard court was one of the slowest the players had ever experienced, so the switch to Paris represents a dramatic change. Even so, he has been in decent form of late and carried that into his match with Rune, playing with plenty of confidence.
He takes on Spanish 22-year-old Daniel Merida, who comfortably beat Sebastian Baez 6-4, 6-2 on Monday. Merida was better than Baez in all facets of the game, and he will now aim to follow that up and push Paul all the way.
That will not be easy against a player who is performing really well at present. Merida will have to be somewhere close to his best and hope that Paul suffers a drop-off if he is to have a chance.
We do not see that happening, with Paul playing with great consistency right now, and we expect the American to get the win and progress to the Round of 16.
