Lorenzo Musetti vs Luca Van Assche prediction

The 24-year-old Italian has beaten Hubert Hurkacz and newly crowned world number one Alexander Zverev, both in straight sets, to reach the Round of 16.

His win over Hurkacz was incredibly close, as he edged the key points to win successive tie-breaks. Against Zverev, he fully deserved his victory, running out a 7-6, 6-2 winner. He held his serve throughout and broke the world number one twice from the six break points he generated.

His confidence will be incredibly high off the back of that, and it will be interesting to see if he has any motivation issues as he now comes up against 22-year-old Luca Van Assche.

The Belgian-born Frenchman has picked up a couple of impressive straight-sets wins of his own, beating Mariano Navone 6-3, 7-5 and then Learner Tien 7-6, 6-4 on Wednesday. The win over the 15th seed was particularly impressive and will give him plenty of confidence coming into this one.

The pair have met twice before, winning a match apiece, but it was Musetti who won the most recent encounter in Lyon just a couple of weeks ago, edging that quarter-final 7-6, 6-7, 6-4.

Neither player has gone to a third set in Paris this week, but it would be no surprise if this one did, given how well the duo are playing. Our clear preference is for Musetti, but we can see this one potentially going the distance.
