Rinky Hijikata vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry prediction

Hijikata’s confidence will be sky high after a stunning comeback win against Djokovic on Wednesday. After losing the first set 6-2, he took the second and third sets 6-3 to knock out Djokovic and dent any hopes the Serbian had of reaching the ATP Finals.

Hijikata has already come through four matches to reach this stage, overcoming Jaime Faria, Vit Kopriva and Luciano Darderi before knocking out Djokovic. The way he adapted mid-match to fight his way back against Djokovic was impressive, and his forehand in particular was on fire throughout.

He will want to keep that hot streak going as he comes up against Etcheverry, who is in some form of his own. The Argentine opened up by eliminating Andrey Rublev in three sets in the first round, and he stepped it up even further on Wednesday as he knocked out Alex de Minaur 7-6, 6-3.

Etcheverry can also take confidence from the fact he beat Hijikata 6-1, 6-4 in their only previous meeting, in Hangzhou last year.

This one does seem pretty open, and Hijikata is going to be as confident as ever after getting past Djokovic. However, there may be some kind of comedown, physically and emotionally, after that win. With Etcheverry only needing two sets on Wednesday, we think he will be the fresher of the two, and that could make all the difference.
