Plymouth vs Alvechurch prediction

Alvechurch have been here before. The Worcestershire side beat League One Cheltenham Town 2-1 away in the first round in 2022-23, before losing 2-1 to Forest Green Rovers in round two, and their best FA Cup run came in 1973-74 when they reached the third round before losing 4-2 at Bradford City. They also went through a record five replays against Oxford City in 1971-72 before finally winning.

This season’s route was a typical non-league grind. Alvechurch beat AFC Wolverhampton City 2-0 and Racing Club Warwick 3-1, won 2-1 at Cambridge City, then needed a replay against Spalding United, which they won 4-0 after a 2-2 draw. They are unbeaten in four Southern League Premier Central games, although three of those were draws, and a 4-4 draw at Stratford Town and a 2-2 draw with Anstey Nomads show that they are quite open at the back.

Plymouth Argyle are fifth in League One and have a good cup pedigree, having reached the fifth round in 2024-25 after knocking out Liverpool at Home Park, and the fourth round in 2023-24. Last season, though, they went out in this round, losing 2-0 to Wycombe Wanderers. They drew 0-0 with Reading last time out, which followed a 3-2 win at Cambridge United. Four divisions separate the sides and Alvechurch’s habit of conceding in most games makes a comfortable win likely, so rather than the straight win we are backing a margin of two or more.

Plymouth vs Alvechurch tip: Plymouth to win by 2+ goals
