Oxford Utd vs Stevenage prediction

Oxford United went further than most last season, reaching the fourth round before a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland, and they have made a strong start under Aaron Ramsey, appointed in June after Matt Bloomfield was sacked. A 2-0 win over Reading on Wednesday night made it ten league games unbeaten for the U’s, who are in the promotion mix in League One.

Stevenage are 16th, and their season has been one of extremes. They won 5-1 at Barnsley and beat Plymouth Argyle 3-0 at home earlier in the campaign, but they have also lost 1-0 at home to MK Dons and could only draw 2-2 at Leicester City last week. They were knocked out in this round by Chesterfield last season, reached the third round in 2023-24 before losing to Maidstone United, and made the fourth round in 2022-23, so they have a record of slipping up in this competition.

Oxford won the league meeting 2-1 at Stevenage in August, which was Ramsey’s first win as the U’s boss. Same-division ties are the hardest to call, and Stevenage’s ability to produce a big result means this is not a foregone conclusion. Oxford’s momentum and home advantage are hard to ignore though, and the hosts look the better bet. We are siding with the U’s.
