MK Dons vs Swindon prediction

MK Dons’ recent record in this round is not a happy one, with first-round exits to AFC Wimbledon in 2024-25 and Reading in 2023-24, but last season they went further, reaching the third round before losing on penalties to Oxford United. They come into this on a roll. Three league wins in a row have brought 11 goals, topped by a 6-1 thrashing of Doncaster Rovers that followed a 4-1 win over Bromley and a narrow 1-0 victory at Stevenage, and that run has lifted them into the top half of League One.

Swindon also reached the third round last season, losing 3-2 to Salford City, and the sides know each other well after being League Two rivals. MK Dons won both league meetings on their way to promotion, 1-0 at home on Boxing Day and 2-1 at Swindon in March, although Swindon did win 4-0 at MK Dons in the EFL Trophy in November. Swindon arrive in decent shape. They are 13th in League Two and unbeaten in four, with a 3-1 win at Barnet and a 2-1 victory over Rotherham United last time out. The numbers behind that run are modest, though. They have scored only 15 goals in 14 league games, so they are a side that grinds out results rather than overwhelms teams.

Put those two profiles together and a home win with a visiting goal looks the likeliest script. MK Dons have the attacking momentum and the division advantage, but Swindon’s form suggests they will find a way to score on the break or from a set-piece. We are backing the hosts to win with both teams on the scoresheet.
