Matteo Berrettini has come through two incredibly tough matches, edging a three-set thriller against Brandon Nakashima in the first round before a hard-fought straight-sets battle against France’s Ugo Humbert.

Berrettini’s serve has been particularly strong in Paris this week, and if he is to have any chance against Alcaraz, it is going to have to be as good as it can be.

Alcaraz overcame Alex Michelsen 7-6, 6-3 in his opening match on Wednesday. He looked fresh following his exploits in Vienna last week, and he will be confident of going deep, especially with several seeds already eliminated in Paris.

Berrettini will be no pushover, but the likelihood is that Alcaraz will be able to handle everything the Italian can throw at him.
