Jan-Lennard Struff vs Casper Ruud prediction

Struff was pushed all the way by Argentina’s Thiago Tirante on Wednesday, with the German fighting back from a set down to edge a thriller 6-7, 6-3, 7-6.

He had to dig deep, but it was a deserved win overall, as he generated an impressive 13 break points to his opponent’s five. He was very strong on his first serve, although his second serve was something of a weakness.

He is going to have to raise his game as he now comes up against an in-form Casper Ruud. The 27-year-old Norwegian is coming off a superb 6-3, 6-4 win over Spanish prodigy Rafael Jodar. With Jodar needing wins to secure his ATP Finals place, there was no shortage of motivation for the young Spaniard, but Ruud outplayed him to claim a straight-sets victory.

The pair have met four times on the ATP Tour, and it is Struff who leads the way with three wins. However, Ruud won their most recent meeting, although that came back in 2023 in Beijing.

Struff is in decent enough form to finish the season, but assuming his motivation levels remain the same, it is Ruud we have to prefer. He was highly motivated in his clash with Jodar, and with so many seeds being eliminated, we think Ruud will be desperate to go far this week. We expect him to get the win and progress to the quarter-finals.
