Matias Soto comes into this one on the back of a round of 16 loss to compatriot Alejandro Tabilo at the ATP Challenger Concepcion in late-January in his most recent singles outing. He is a wildcard entrant but is among the weaker players in the tournament, ranked 389th in the world.
Number five seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry is ranked 51st in the world and has enjoyed a positive start to this year with a third round appearance at the Australian Open. He has also performed well since then by reaching the semi-finals of the Rio Open as well as the Argentina Open earlier this month.
This does appear to be one of the more one-sided clashes in the first round of the Chile Open and Etcheverry is expected to come out on top quite comfortably.
