Carlos Alcaraz vs Arthur Fils prediction

Carlos Alcaraz continued his unbeaten start to the year after ending Andrey Rublev’s defence of his title in the semi-finals of the Qatar Open. The Spaniard controlled the start of the match but he was unable to serve out the set on two occasions, and it had to be decided on a tiebreak. Nevertheless, he reasserted his authority and raced into a 3-0 lead in the second. A dogged Rublev would hit back with a break of his own to draw level but despite Alcaraz failing to serve out the match, he broke yet again to seal a 7-6 (3) 6-4 win.

He will play Arthur Fils after the Frenchman defeated Jakub Mensik in the other semi-final. Fils is competing in just his third tournament since returning from a long-term back injury, but he dominated the first set and raced ahead in the tiebreak to win 6-4 7-6 (5).

The head-to-head is 2-0 in favour of Alcaraz after two wins in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona last year, but this is their first meeting on a hard court. Fils is continuing to make an impression on his return to the tour but it’s difficult to look past the world number one, who has won his last 29 outdoor hard court matches.
