Leylah Fernandez held off the challenge of Aliaksandra Sasnovich to reach the last eight in Ningbo.

The Canadian was made to work hard for the victory before eventually triumphing 7-5 6-7 6-3.

The world number 30 will now battle Ekaterina Alexandrova for the sixth time after the Russian progressed when Marta Kostyuk retired trailing 4-6.

Fernandez won their most recent tussle 6-4 3-6 6-3 in Wuhan just last week but is 3-2 behind in the head-to-head overall (with all matches on hardcourts).
