Alexandra Shubladze vs Elena Pridankina prediction

Alexandra Shubladze marked her tour-level bow with an impressive upset in Hong Kong.

The 21-year-old Russian took down her compatriot and seventh seed Liudmila Samsonova by a 5-7 6-1 6-2 scoreline.

The world number 136 will now face lucky loser Elena Pridankina, who progressed when Paula Badosa retired trailing 5-7.

Pridankina sits 70 places lower on the WTA ladder but did win their only previous meeting 7-5 7-5 in a W75 ITF clash last year.

Both are relatively inexperienced in terms of main draw success at this level and it’s a tough call that may suit a punt on a decent swell of games rather than the outright winner, although Pridankina would be our pick if pushed.
