Zizou Bergs failed to qualify for Monte-Carlo despite being the number one seed. That was disappointing for the Belgian, considering his encouraging performance at the Miami Open, where he reached the third-round after staging an upset and defeating eighth seed Andrey Rublev in the previous round.
He will face qualifier Alexander Bublik in the first-round of the BMW Open. Bublik made the final of the Phoenix Challenger last month, losing to Joao Fonesca in what has been the highlight of his season so far. He hasn’t been able to maintain his form in the two events since, losing in the second-round of Miami to Tommy Paul and failing to make it out of qualifying for Monte-Carlo.
Bergs is now the Belgian number one and is continuing his rise in the rankings following the first ATP Tour final of his career in Auckland at the start of the season. We’re backing him to advance to the second round.
