Taylor Fritz vs Denis Shapovalov prediction

Taylor Fritz is coming off a 6-4, 7-6 win over Rinky Hijikata in the first round, and the sixth seed will be hoping to continue the momentum he picked up in Lyon last week and push on in this tournament.

The 29-year-old meets a familiar foe, having faced Shapovalov 11 times previously on the ATP Tour, with the Canadian edging the head-to-head 6-5. Shapovalov won their first three encounters between 2018 and 2020, but Fritz has won five of the last eight, including their most recent meeting at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami last year.

Shapovalov has been playing some good tennis of late, however, and he breezed through his first-round match against Swiss qualifier Remy Bertola.

Both players are likely to be tested much more than they were in their opening matches here, but it is Fritz who might just be the sharper of the two at present. He went all the way to the final in Lyon before losing to Lorenzo Musetti, and he seems to be playing with that extra motivation right now.
