Jil Teichmann vs Zeynep Sonmez prediction

Jil Teichmann recorded just her third hard court win of 2026 after beating Simona Walter in the first-round of the Guangzhou Open. Despite winning 7-5 6-2, Teichmann still had to save 11 out of 13 break point opportunities overall. Her next opponent is Zeynep Sonmez.

The Turk won in three sets against Sara Sorribes Tormo. Sonmez comfortably led after the first set, but she was broken on three occasions in the second as her opponent levelled the match. The 24-year-old regrouped and won the first three games of the decider, sealing a 6-1 4-6 6-2 victory. She is now one match away from a fourth quarter-final of the campaign, though she has failed to record back-to-back main draw victories on the WTA Tour since June.

Both players were vulnerable at times in their opening matches, but Sonmez is the more established tour-level player these days, and she will be viewed as the favourite to win.
