Remy Bertola vs Denis Shapovalov prediction

Remy Bertola is a 28-year-old who has spent most of his career on the Challenger Tour, but he did make it to the ATP 250 event in Brussels last week before losing to David Goffin in the first round.

He will be fired up in front of his home crowd but has been handed a tough first-round encounter against Canada’s Denis Shapovalov.

The 27-year-old Canadian is coming off an impressive Asian leg of the ATP Tour, where he reached the semi-finals in Chengdu before losing to Hubert Hurkacz in a deciding set, and made it to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open, where he faced Carlos Alcaraz.

He was forced to retire from that match with Alcaraz and subsequently pulled out of both the Shanghai Masters and the Lyon Open due to the leg issue he sustained. He returns to action here and will be keen to do well this week, assuming there are no physical issues.

It is more than three weeks since that match with Alcaraz, so he should be fit, but it is always a concern when players return to action.

He should, however, have far too much quality for Bertola, and while we approach this one with a bit of caution, Shapovalov is our pick to progress. He often ends the season strongly, there are plenty of signs that he will do exactly the same in 2026, and we expect him to win comfortably.
