Alex Michelsen vs Botic van de Zandschulp prediction

Alex Michelsen will be hoping to return to form in Basel this week after a relatively lean spell, by his high standards, in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old Californian reached the quarter-finals at the US Open but has since suffered opening-match losses in Asia. He lost his first match to Carlos Alcaraz in Japan, and a week later suffered a straight-sets defeat at the hands of his opponent here, Botic van de Zandschulp, in Shanghai.

He will be hoping to regain some form as he returns to Europe, and he starts in Basel with the opportunity to avenge that loss to the Dutchman.

Van de Zandschulp has had a mixed 2026, but there have been some impressive highs, including a run to the quarter-finals of his own at the US Open.

He is coming off an impressive week in Shanghai, where he overcame Daniel Merida, Michelsen and Arthur Fils before losing to Spanish prodigy Rafael Jodar over three sets in the round of 16. He arrives in Switzerland in pretty good form, and that will give him confidence, along with his recent win over Michelsen.

This has all the makings of a really close-fought match and could go all the way. While we have a marginal preference for Van de Zandschulp, our play here is on total games, and we expect the overs.
