Antonia Ruzic vs Claire Liu prediction

Antonia Ruzic arrives in Guangzhou following an encouraging run to the quarter-finals in Osaka, her strongest recent result on the WTA Tour. Ruzic defeated former world number two Paula Badosa in the opening round before advancing past Kayla Day. Her campaign ended against Katie Boulter, with the British number one recovering from a set down to win. She has been largely inconsistent in terms of results in 2026, but her performances at that event demonstrated that she can trouble experienced opponents with her baseline game.

Claire Liu did not fare as well, losing in the first-round to Magda Linette. She has won two lower-level titles this season, with the highlight being a WTA 125 in Barranquilla just last month. She beat Anna Blinkova in three sets. Liu performed strongly at this event last year, reaching the semi-finals, which indicates that she is comfortable in these conditions. 

Ruzic has the weapons to challenge Liu, and I do expect this one to be closely fought.
