Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Carlos Alcaraz prediction

Nikoloz Basilashvili began his campaign in Vienna with a straight sets win over Jurij Rodionov. The Georgian edged ahead after a close first set before racing ahead in the second to win 7-6 (3) 6-1. Basilashvili has been in excellent form over the last month, advancing to the Chengdu Open semi-finals at the end of last month and the final of the Almaty Open earlier in October. In his first ATP final since Feburary 2022, Basilashvli won the first set against former world number one Daniil Medvedev before going on to lose in three.

He faces second seed Carlos Alcaraz in the round-of-16. Alcaraz overcame Karen Khachanov in an engrossing first-round match. Alcaraz went an early break down in the first set but recovered to go in front. He squandered match points in the second, with Khachanov also serving to level the match at 6-5 up. However, the seven-time Grand Slam champion broke back and also won the final three points of the tiebreak to claim a 6-4 7-6 (5) victory. Alcaraz is now on a 22-match unbeaten streak at ATP 500 events.

Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 2-0. Basilashvili will be confident of causing some issues for the Spaniard, but it is still likely to be an uphill task.
