Arthur Fery advanced to the next round in Vienna after his opponent Jacob Fearnley retired in the first set of their round one match. Fery was leading 5-1 when his compatriot decided that he could not continue. Fery made headlines this year with his superb run to the semi-finals of Wimbledon as a wild card. He also reached his first tour-level final in Winston-Salem a month later.

He faces Lorenzo Musetti for a place in the quarter-finals. Musetti extended his winning streak to six matches after a hard-fought win over Frances Tiafoe. The 24-year-old did not concede a break point across the match and produced his best level during the most important moments to win 7-6 (6) 7-5. Musetti won the Lyon Open last week, his first title on the ATP Tour since October 2022.

These two met for the first time at the US Open this year, with Musetti winning 6-3 6-3 7-5. The two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist has found form, and I expect his winning run to continue against Fery.
