Union Berlin return from the March international break sitting tucked inside the top-half of the Bundesliga table as they welcome relegation-battling St Pauli.

Union Berlin preview: Mid-table Union

Union Berlin have fought well above their weight for a while now and they are, again, performing above general expectations as they try and stay in touch with the top seven and potential European qualification.

The capital city club went into the break on the back of a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich a couple of weeks ago, meaning that they have now suffered three defeats in their last four matches.

St Pauli preview: Struggling St Pauli

St Pauli begin the weekend sitting third-from-bottom and in the end of season relegation playoff place. They are two points behind Cologne, and outright safety, ahead of the 28th match day of the campaign.

The visitors had shown some fight in the early stages of spring but they went into the international break on the back of back-to-back losses against Borussia Monchengladbach and then Freiburg.

Union Berlin team news: Skov still a doubt

There are no reasons of injury or suspension for Union to make any changes to their side this weekend, with Denmark international striker Robert Skov working his way back to full fitness.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Ronnow; Doekhi, Querfeld, Nsoki; Trimmel, Kemlein, Haberer, Khedira, Kohn; Skarke, Burcu

Unavailable: Raab (Injured)

Questionable: Skov (Injured)

St Pauli team news: Defensive injuries

St Pauli are dealing with plenty of defensive injury issues for this one as Lars Ritzka is now sidelined alongside Eric Smith with fellow defender Tomoya Ando also a doubt for the visitors.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Vasilj; Wahl, Nemeth, Dzwigala; Pyrka, Rasmussen, Irvine, Oppie; Fujita, Pereira Lage; Sinani

Unavailable: Ritzka (Injured), Smith (Injured), Sands (Injured), Jones (Injured)

Questionable: Ando (Injured), Saliakas (Injured)

Union Berlin vs St Pauli prediction

Home advantage will mean that Union Berlin should take the initiative here. However, in an often chaotic league, Union are one of the more reactive and calmer sides. Given that, as well as the fact that St Pauli will more than respect and value the draw and any point they can get their hands on, it may not the most thrilling watch for the neutral in the capital this weekend.

Union Berlin vs St Pauli tip: Under 2.5 goals
