Rennes preview: Two defeats in three

Following the appointment of former Lens boss Franck Haise in the spring, Stade Rennais were much-improved as they qualified for Europe and there was expected to be a push for UEFA Champions League qualification this time around.

Things have been steady for Rennes thus far but they have now suffered two defeats in their last three matches in Ligue 1 after they were entertainingly beaten 4-3 by Paris FC last week due to a 98th minute penalty scored by Lassine Sinayoko.

Strasbourg preview: Struggling Strasbourg

It has been a tough start to the campaign for Strasbourg after impressive young Portuguese coach Hugo Oliveira replaced Gary O’Neil in the summer as they drift in the bottom half of the table with two victories in their seven matches thus far.

The Alsace-based outfit suffered their third successive loss last week after taking the lead against stuttering champions Paris Saint-Germain before collapsing to a 3-1 defeat to the Parisians at Stade de la Meinau.

Rennes team news: Lepaul a doubt

Having scored a hat-trick of penalties in a 4-3 defeat to Paris last week, France international striker Esteban Lepaul is now a major doubt for this one due to an ankle injury.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Samba; Frankowski, Cresswell, Rouault, Reynolds; Szymanski, Cisse, Thomasson; Blas, Al Tamari, Soumare

Unavailable:

Questionable: Lepaul (Injured)

Strasbourg team news: A few doubts

Strasbourg have a few doubts as Ismail Doukoure and Martial Godo work their way back to full fitness with Sebastian Nanasi, while Fabio Balde has picked up an injury issue, too.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen; Antwi, Coulibaly, Jeyland Mitchell, Oso; Essugo, Diop; Yassine, Reyna, Amo-Ameyaw; Harder

Unavailable: Panichelli (Injured)

Questionable: Doukoure (Fitness), Nanasi (Fitness), Godo (Fitness), Balde (Injured)

Rennes vs Strasbourg prediction

Strasbourg have remained entertaining to watch this season and did show some improvement last week, while Rennes’ seven Ligue 1 games have now consisted of 29 goals as they continue to be a fun watch for the neutral. That was once again the case in midweek as they shared a 2-2 draw with Italian giants Juventus in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League. With home advantage, Rennes are favourites but it may be a good watch, too.
