Paris Saint-Germain team news: Brilliant in the UCL

Having hammered Slovan Bratislava and then been supreme against Manchester City, back-to-back European champions Paris Saint-Germain continued their fine start to this season’s UEFA Champions League with a 4-2 defeat of Barcelona in midweek.

In Ligue 1, Luis Enrique has continued to heavily rotate and performances have left a fair bit to be desired until he makes the changes to win games, as was the case with a 3-1 win against Strasbourg when they were 1-0 down until the cavalry arrived.

Lyon preview: Technically top

As a result of goal difference, Olympique Lyonnais lead that five-team contingent level on points at the top of Ligue 1 but the hosts were unconvincing in their hard-fought 2-1 defeat, admittedly with ten men, at home to Nice last weekend.

In midweek, Lyon succumbed to a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Hoffenheim in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League in Germany due to goals scored by Andrej Kramaric, Adam Daghim and Adam Hlozek.

Paris Saint-Germain preview: Big injuries in midweek

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia limped off against Barca and has now undergone surgery on an ACL injury with Marquinhos also forced off in that one. Ousmane Dembele has also picked up a thigh injury after Nuno Mendes had been ruled out with his own thigh issue.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Safonov; Zaire-Emery, Zabarnyi, Willian Pacho, Digne; Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Doue, Ferran Torres, Akliouche

Unavailable: Marquinhos (Injured), Mendes (Injured), Kvaratskhelia (Injured), Dembele (Injured)

Questionable:

Lyon team news: Nakamura suspended

Lyon were down to ten men last week due to Keito Nakamura being sent off and so he is now missing through suspension with fresh injuries from midweek, too, such as Steeve Kango and Czechia international attacking midfielder Pavel Sulc.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Descamps; Athekame, Clinton Mata, Niakhate, Abner; Bidstrup, Tessmann; Duranville, Nartey, Boudache; Tolisso

Unavailable: Ouedraogo (Injured), Tagliafico (Injured), Nakamura (Suspended), Openda (Injured)

Questionable: Kango (Injured), Sulc (Injured)

Paris Saint-Germain vs Lyon prediction

When it comes to big games and ones that could be pivotal or decisive, PSG tend to be able to flex their muscle and eventually overcome all opposition – and that is expected to be the case. Paulo Fonseca will believe his Lyon side will be plucky enough to expose the gaps that there are within the PSG setup at the moment but the hosts should still come out on top in the French capital.
