Paderborn preview: Breaking out the bottom three

With just one win from six games so far in this season’s Bundesliga, Paderborn find themselves in 16th place heading into the weekend, with a poor goal difference putting them inside the bottom three. They’ve scored just five goals all season, the joint-second-worst total in the German top flight, with only Schalke 04 having found the net less often.

The only victory recorded by Paderborn so far in the league this campaign came against Hoffenheim. Since then, they’ve been beaten at home by Stuttgart and most recently drew 2-2 away at Werder Bremen.

Hamburg preview: Red hot

Hamburg are on fire recently and riding the crest of a wave, with three wins from their last three. A 2-1 victory against FC Cologne was backed up by an enthralling 2-3 triumph in Sinsheim over Hoffenheim. But their last victory was arguably the most impressive, shutting out Stuttgart in a hard-fought 1-0 win at the Volksparkstadion.

Right now, Merlin Polzin’s side feel like they can beat anyone, and who can blame them? That makes Hamburg extremely dangerous opposition as they arrive in Paderborn, full of confidence and momentum.

Paderborn team news: Quartet absent

Paderborn are without Awortwie-Grant, Batista Meier, Gayret and Hoffmeier for the visit of Hamburg and could also be missing Klaas.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Noll; Ter Horst, Scheller, Hansen; Curda, Ulrich, Castaneda, Vidovic, Obermair; Marino, Tigges

Unavailable: Awortwie-Grant (Injured), Batista Meier (Injured), Gayret (Injured), Hoffmeier (Injured)

Questionable: Klaas (Injured)

Hamburg team news: Lokonga doubt

Hamburg will have to make a late call on midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga who is battling a muscle issue, whilst Daka, Dickes, Remberg and Jatta are out.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Fernandes; Capaldo, Bornauw, Omari; El Ouahdi, Nadir, Muheim, Moller Wolfe; Vieira, Poulsen, Gronbaek

Unavailable Daka (Injured), Dickes (Injured), Remberg (Injured), Jatta (Injured)

Questionable: Lokonga (Injured)

Paderborn vs Hamburg prediction

When taking into account the form of these two sides heading into this game, it does not bode well for Paderborn. It’s hard to see them outscoring Hamburg, particularly if they were to fall behind in this game. While scoring goals had been an issue for the visitors, they recently appear to have found their shooting boots, finding the net six times across their last three victories.

This represents a golden opportunity for Hamburg to make it four victories in a row, and when you factor in the confidence and form of this team, backing them via the safety of the draw no bet market appears to be the value play.
