Augsburg preview: Clinical edge
While Augsburg are without a win in their last four Bundesliga fixtures, it hasn’t been for a lack of scoring. They’ve racked up 16 goals so far this season, and only Bayern Munich have managed more in the Bundesliga. However, the back line has let them down, conceding at least twice in each of those last four games, which explains why they’ve won none of them.
The offence deserves credit for continuing to find the back of the net with regularity, but the defence needs to do its part if Augsburg are going to get back to winning ways and move up the Bundesliga table.
Union Berlin preview: Woeful attack
It’s been the opposite story for Union Berlin, who have found the net just five times this campaign, an average of less than a goal a game. However, a terrible run of three straight losses appears to be behind Mauro Lustrinelli’s side, who have since picked up four points from their last two league matches, with a significant defensive improvement key to their renaissance.
After edging out SV Elversberg by a goal to nil, a fantastic performance from the Union back line saw them hold Borussia Dortmund to a 0-0 draw. They’ll need to maintain this recent stability at the back to get anything in Augsburg.

Although it’s important not to underestimate Union Berlin after their recent defensive showings, it will be very difficult for them to replicate those levels of performance against an Augsburg side who continue to find the net with regularity. This is a team that has scored multiple goals against the likes of Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, to name just two sides, and such offensive firepower will be extremely difficult for Union to keep out over the course of 90 minutes.
Although these two teams are at opposite ends of the form table over the past few weeks, it serves as the ideal fixture for Augsburg to get back to winning ways, and backing them to do so with home advantage in their favour, looks a sensible move.
