Athletic Bilbao preview: Tough start
There were signs of life for Athletic after back-to-back victories against Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid in early-September but former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic is finding it difficult to bring about some consistency in Bilbao.
They now head into this one on the back of a comfortable 3-1 defeat at the hands of Levante at Estadio Ciutat de Valencia in midweek due to an early brace from Brugui, a consolation from Alex Berenguer and then a late consolation scored by Karl Etta Eyong.
Getafe preview: Busy Getafe
Getafe come into this one on the back of a 5-2 hammering at the hands of Swiss Super League outfit Lugano in the league phase of the UEFA Europa Conference League in midweek in a game in which they were simply blown away at the Coliseum.
In La Liga, Getafe have managed just three victories in their 13 matches across all competitions so far this season as they look set to battle against the drop with an underwhelming style of football as ever under Jose Bordalas.
Athletic Bilbao team news: Laporte suspended
FIFA World Cup 2026 winning defender Aymeric Laporte was sent off last week and so is now missing through suspension with Oihan Sancet also still unavailable but Nico Williams has returned to full fitness for the hosts.

Getafe team news: Unal a doubt
Enes Unal was forced off with an ankle injury against Lugano in midweek with versatile defender Djene now missing through suspension after being sent off last weekend.
Predicted XI (4-4-2): David Soria; Dani Carvajal, Abqar, Valou, Johan Mojica; Kiko Femenia, Gudelj, Mario Martin, Ramon Terrats; Martin Satriano, Ivan Azon
Unavailable: Djene (Suspended), Uche (Injured), Juanmi (Injured)

Athletic Bilbao vs Getafe prediction
In nine matches in La Liga, the often tedious style of Jose Bordalas has seen Getafe score just five goals as they remain the lowest scorers in Spain’s top-flight. Athletic themselves have lacked fluency in the final third despite the intentions of manager Terzic and they will nervy about a Getafe side that may become ultra-Getafe after their hammering the other day and so a low-scoring contest feels likely for this one.
Athletic Bilbao vs Getafe tip: Under 2.5 goals
