Iasmin Lucindo: Will the Brazilian standout rebound from a disappointing defeat last time out?

Debuting with a loss to hyped prospect Yazmin Jauregai in 2022, Iasmin Lucindo (17-6) quietly put together a four fight win streak in the UFC’s strawweight division before coming up short in decisive fashion against former title challenger, Amanda Lemos, in her most recent showcase. At her best, the 23 year old Brazilian fighter typically utilizes crisp and technical striking to carry her to victory. She’s also capable of snatching up a submission should the opportunity happen to present itself, a status quo highlighted by a Performance of the Night winning arm-triangle victory over Polyana Viana in 2023.

Angela Hill: One of the UFC’s longest serving female veterans looks to kickstart her latest attempt at a title run

Making her 28th walk to the Octagon, Angela Hill (18-14) remains one of the most underrated female fighters the sport has ever seen. While her 12-12 UFC record suggests a fighter who is not talented enough to compete, let alone contend for titles, in the world’s premier MMA organization, there’s a valid argument to made that Hill is one of unluckiest fighters in the promotion’s history. A lightning fast volume Muay Thai striker, “Overkill” has come out on the wrong end of a split decision on no less than four occasions, to say nothing of several other unanimous decision defeats that were widely decried as robberies.

Iasmin Lucindo vs Angela Hill prediction

This looks to be a classic case of whether youth is enough to trump experience.

While many were looking at Lucindo as a potential future challenger for the strawweight title, to say that the defeat to Lemos dampened such expectations would be a notable understatement. The Brazilian was completely dominated from start to finish by Lemos’ ground game at UFC 313, mustering just 4 significant strikes across 3 rounds. The fact that she was defeated in this fashion gets even more concerning in light of the fact that “Amandinha” is a striker by trade.

While it is easy to scoff at Hill’s near .500 MMA record on paper, do not discount the fact that “Overkill” has fought a murderer’s row of competition for the vast majority of her career. While the wily American veteran is exceedingly unlikely to try and replicate Lemos’ success by stifling Lucindo on the ground, a high-paced striking battle is where she has historically thrived.

The oddsmakers may be marginally siding with the young Brazilian to right the wrongs of her last defeat and get the job done here, but look for the ageless Hill to lean on her cardio, experience, and striking acumen to frustrate her foe for an upset victory.

Prediction: Angela Hill to win by decision
