Edmen Shahbazyan: Still evolving at 27
Edmen Shahbazyan (15-5) was once billed as the future of the division when he burst onto the UFC scene with a 4-0 start. However, that momentum came to a halt after a tough loss to Derek Brunson, which exposed stamina and grappling concerns. Now 27, Shahbazyan has stabilised with back-to-back wins, including a dominant decision over Andre Petroski and a first-round TKO of Dylan Budka.
A dangerous and explosive kickboxer, Shahbazyan has finished 80% of his career wins by knockout. While his early hype may have been premature, his recent improvements—particularly in takedown defence—suggest a more mature and well-rounded fighter is emerging.
Andre Muniz: BJJ ace on a downward slide
Brazil’s Andre Muniz (24-7) built his name off a slick ground game and holds the rare honour of submitting Jacare Souza. With 15 of his 24 wins coming via submission, his BJJ credentials are undeniable. That said, the 35-year-old has shown signs of wear in recent bouts, most recently suffering a TKO loss to Ikram Aliskerov. Prior to that, he edged out a split decision over Jun Yong Park.
Muniz remains a dangerous grappler, but his striking is limited and he has struggled when unable to impose his grappling-heavy style. With age and damage becoming factors, this may be a critical turning point in his UFC journey.
Edmen Shahbazyan vs Andre Muniz prediction
This bout pits youth and striking against age and submission skills. While Muniz could find a finish if the fight hits the mat early, Shahbazyan is the fresher, more dynamic fighter with improved takedown defence.
Expect Shahbazyan to keep it standing, overwhelm Muniz with pace and power, and find a finish against a fighter showing clear signs of decline.
Prediction: Edmen Shahbazyan to win via KO/TKO
