Lecce preview: Struggling Lecce

Lecce begin the 31st match day of the 2025/26 Serie A season sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places, but only on goal difference as they sit just behind Cremonese, a couple of points behind Fiorentina and and just three away from Cagliari.

The home team come into this one on the back of an international break whereby they have decided to keep hold of under pressure manager Eusebio Di Francesco, who is seeking to avoid his third successive relegation from Italy's top-flight.

Atalanta preview: Into the run in

Atalanta are wildly inconsistent. They have found some form and some brilliant performances since Raffaele Palladino's appointment but their floor remains as low as what was the general average in the first part of the campaign under Ivan Juric.

The Bergamasci did head into the final couple of weeks, though, on the back of a much-needed victory as they edged past relegation-bound Hellas Verona by a goal to nil at the New Balance Arena.

Lecce team news: Several doubts

Lecce are dealing with several doubts for this weekend as Kialonda Gaspar is potentially sidelined alongside attacking duo Lameck Banda and Riccardo Sottil.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Falcone; Jean, Siebert, Tiago Gabriel, Gallo; Ramadani, Ngom; Pierotti, Gandelman, Cheddira; Stulic

Unavailable: Berisha (Injured), Camarda (Injured)

Questionable: Gaspar (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured), Veiga (Injured), Banda (Injured), Sottil (Injured)

Atalanta team news: Scamacca a doubt

Gianluca Scamacca picked up a thigh injury on the eve of the international break, while Isak Hien is ruled out after being injured while away with Sweden last week.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Scalvini, Djimsiti, Kolasinac; Zappacosta, De Roon, Ederson, Bernasconi; De Ketelaere, Zalewski; Krstovic

Unavailable: Hien (Injured)

Questionable: Scamacca (Injured)

Lecce vs Atalanta prediction

The theme of Di Francesco's sides is common. Good football and poor results followed by a more defensive approach that then leads to them having a sniff of safety, ultimately fruitless in the end. Lecce are following that pattern and, while they may be able to again keep the score down here in the south of Italy, the inconsistent visitors remain firm favourites to make it back-to-back victories in their pursuit of European qualification.

Lecce vs Atalanta tip: Atalanta to win & under 3.5 goals
