Holger Rune vs Valentin Vacherot prediction

Holger Rune had to come through yet another three-set thriller as he overcame Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz on Thursday. After going a set down, Rune bounced back and then edged a third-set tie-break to progress in what was an incredibly even match.

That win will once again give him a whole heap of confidence as he tries to get back to something close to his best following the serious Achilles injury that kept him out for almost a year.

He takes on Valentin Vacherot, who pulled off one of the best wins of his career in the round of 16 as he beat Spanish prodigy Rafael Jodar, also in a third-set tie-break.

The 27-year-old was behind Jodar on so many of the key statistics, but he won a host of decisive points, including saving a number of Jodar’s break points, to scrape the victory. The key moments went Vacherot’s way despite him arguably being second best throughout, and despite that famous win he will likely have to improve once again against an in-form Rune.

The pair have met once before, in Shanghai just over a year ago, when Vacherot won in three sets.

We find it difficult to predict who will emerge victorious from this one, but we can fully see it going the distance, and we will back it to go all three sets.
