Brentford preview: Strong at home
Brentford are firmly entrenched in mid-table right now with their latest Premier League outing seeing them lose 2-0 to the impressive Crystal Palace last Saturday - their fifth league defeat of the 2025-26 campaign.
Only one of those losses has occurred at home though, with the Bees having collected ten points from a possible 15 at the Gtech with their only defeat on home turf coming at the hands of Man City.
Newcastle preview: Patchy league form
Newcastle have now lost two of their last three games in the Premier League with the latest defeat coming at the hands of struggling West Ham at the London Stadium. The Magpie have won just three of their opening ten league games this season.
They are faring much better in the UEFA Champions League though, with their 2-0 victory over Spanish outfit Athletic Club on Wednesday taking them to sixth place in the league phase having won three from four to date.
Brentford team news: Arthur could be involved
Benjamin Arthur has returned to full training after a below-the-knee injury and Keith Andrews will make a late call on whether the centre-back is fit enough to make the matchday squad.
Josh Dasilva is "back on the grass" but it will take some time before he is considered for selection given the nature of his ACL injury, while Antoni Milambo is a long-term absentee.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Kayode, Collins, Van den Berg, Ajer; Yarmoliuk, Henderson; Ouattara, Damsgaard, Schade; Thiago
Unavailable: Dasilva (Fitness), Milambo (Injured)
Questionable: Arthur (Fitness)
Newcastle team news: Gordon a big doubt
Anthony Gordon looks very likely to miss out with an injury that is not thought to be serious, while William Osula is out for a couple of weeks with a troublesome ankle injury.
Yoane Wissa is back on the training pitches but won't be rushed back to the squad just yet, while Tino Livramento is also making good progress in his recovery from a knee issue.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Woltemade, Barnes
Unavailable: Livramento (Injured), Osula (Injured), Wissa (Injured)
Questionable: Ashby (Fitness), Gordon (Injured)
Brentford vs Newcastle prediction
Newcastle have generally had the upper hand when it comes to this fixture in recent seasons with the Magpies winning seven of their last eight contests, although Brentford's one victory in that run did come at the Gtech last season (4-2).
Failure to win here mean questions would start to be asked of Eddie Howe, as they should really be higher up the table given the investment in their squad.
Brentford can be a tough nut to crack at home though, so a draw looks like a reasonable choice in the match result market.
