Altrincham vs Notts County prediction

Altrincham had to get through a tricky fourth qualifying round to reach the first round proper, being held 0-0 at home by FC United of Manchester before winning the replay 6-2 away. A second-round place would be a good result for them, and one they have not managed since 2019-20, when they beat York City 1-0 before losing to Portsmouth. They went out in this round last season, losing 2-1 to Slough Town.

Alty are currently seventh in the National League, with 24 goals scored and 24 conceded in 16 league games, and have been involved in some high-scoring matches, such as a 5-1 defeat at Woking and a 4-2 loss at home to Carlisle United.

Notts County are 17th in League One, with three wins from 12 and only 13 goals scored, although they did beat Mansfield Town 2-0 away and drew 1-1 with Stockport County recently. The Magpies would expect to go through, but their recent record in this round is underwhelming. They lost on penalties to Brackley Town, who were in the National League at the time, last season, and they had reached the second round in each of the two seasons before that.

Alty will be bang up for this televised match, and despite the fact Notts County are the clear favourites, we can see the hosts finding the net.
