Julien Leblanc: UFC newcomer looking to hit ground running
Julien Leblanc (10-2) will look to make an impression on his UFC debut as he takes on Robert Valentin at the Canada Life Center. Leblanc has won his last five fights to earn his shot at the big time and he brings a 10-2 record into the Octagon. The Canadian is a well-rounded fighter with four knockouts, four submissions and the other two wins coming via unanimous decision.
Robert Valentin: Swiss star looking to half three-fight skid
Robert Valentin (10-6 with one no contest) returns to the Octagon having lost his last three fights so he may very well be fighting for his future in the organisation. He has clearly found the level in the UFC to be a step too high for him and this very well could be his last chance unless he can somehow pull off the victory.
Julien Leblanc vs Robert Valentin prediction
This really is a pick’em fight with two relatively unproven fighters at this level meeting on Saturday night in Winnipeg.
That said, Robert Valentin is proven in the sense of ultimately not being good enough at this level but it looks like the UFC matchmakers have come down a level again in order to give him a fight and also introduce a local to the Canadian card.
Valentin is marginal favourite and rightly so but the Swiss fighter could well be struggling in confidence. His chin is fragile but whether Leblanc could take advantage of that remains to be seen.
It is hard to see this one going the distance. Valentin is explosive but fragile himself while only four of Leblanc’s 12 fights have gone the distance. In one of the more unpredictable fights on the card, avoid the main markets and back this fight to end early.
Prediction: Fight to not go the distance
