Gauge Young: "Gee Money" looks to cash in and push his UFC record to 3-1
Currently standing at 2-1 under the UFC banner, Gauge Young (11-3) actually came up short on the Contender Series prior to eventually making his way to the promotion, coughing up a decision to current surging lightweight contender, Quillan Salkilld. While he has a wrestling background, Young’s game is primarily built on kickboxing, leveraging forward pressure and tight angles to outstrike his opponents. Debuting with a decision loss to Evan Elder, Young is 2-0 since, most recently scoring the biggest win of his career by earning the nod against Thiago Moises in April. He was originally scheduled to face Kody Steele, meaning that he has taken this matchup on short notice.
Stanley Dorsainvil: Can "The Drill" pulverize his way to victory on short notice?
Undefeated as an amateur and a professional, Stan Dorsainvil (5-0) gets his shot at the big leagues off the back of an impressive finish over then-undefeated British prospect, Dan Holt, in LFA. Tall and rangy for the weight class, the 26 year old American has four finishes in five wins, with three of them coming in the very first round. “The Drill” has superb cardio and excellent scrambling ability, leveraging a frenetic pace and pressuring his opponents from the opening bell. While his debut matchup has come together on relatively short notice, he was preparing for a fight in LFA in late August, meaning that he’ll likely enter this one in decent shape.
Gauge Young vs Stanley Dorsainvil prediction
I think that Dorsainvil is actually solid value as an underdog here.
“The Drill” is a big, well-rounded lightweight with a significant reach advantage and has proven to be a prolific finisher. He really impressed in his last win over Dan Holt, producing a dominant display over an exciting prospect in his own right. Dorsainvil is deadly when he’s able to get the fight to the ground and Young has proven susceptible to being taken down throughout his career.
With that being said, the safer money still has to be on Young. “Gee Money” has a major advantage in terms of experience, from overall cage time to quality of opponent; taking Quillan Salkilld to a decision on the Contender Series is looking like a more impressive result with every passing fight. The American has excellent output and has outstruck his last two opponents in impressive fashion.
If Dorsainvil comes out with his usual aggression and forward pressure, there’s a chance that he overwhelms Young early. I rate Dorsainvil and wouldn’t be surprised if he produces an impressive upset, but I think that “Gee Money’s” UFC experience is going to prove to be too much, too soon, allowing him to stay calm and strike his way to victory across three rounds.
Prediction: Gauge Young to win by decision
