Carli Judice: "Crispy" looks for her fourth successive victory
Budding KO artist, Carli Judice (6-2), earned a UFC contract on the Contender Series despite coming out on the wrong end of a decision, courtesy of an absolute war with Ernesta Kareckiate. Another split decision loss to Gabriella Fernandes seemingly lit a fire under “Crispy”; Judice is 3-0 since, scoring two brutal finishes and two performance bonuses along the way. The American throws and lands at extremely high clip, with some genuine pop in her shots to boot. Her best weapon is a ferocious head kick, a technique that has earned her two of her four stoppages to date.
Jeisla Chaves: Can "A Braba" maintain her perfect record?
A former ring girl and geography teacher, Jeisla Chaves (7-0) has swapped out the ring cards for 4 oz gloves with exemplary results to date. Undefeated as a professional, Chaves earned a contract on the Contender Series after an all-out war with Sofia Montenegro last September. Earning regional titles in Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu prior to joining the UFC, “A Braba” is a well-rounded combatant with three finishes to her name. She’s fresh off a hard fought debut victory over the heavy-handed Yuneisy Duben, coming out on the right end of a split decision to begin life in the promotion with a win.
Carli Judice vs Jeisla Chaves prediction
A quick look at the result between the pair’s sole mutual opponent highlights why Judice is such a big favorite here. Chaves fought Yuneisy Duben to a hard-fought split decision, while “Crispy” flatlined her with a head kick in less than two minutes.
Not only does she have legitimate power to score finishes, Judice throws and lands at almost twice the rate that Chaves does. She’s also got excellent takedown defense if Chaves does try and force the issue to the mat, but “A Braba” doesn’t even shoot takedowns at a particularly high clip. As such, while the Brazilian may well go for a few if she starts getting chewed up on the feet, that’s not historically been a particularly well proven path to victory for her.
Judice looks to really have come into her own since her last setback; she’s only ever lost by split decision throughout her career and could well be entering this matchup as a undefeated 8-0 fighter had a few razor close judging decisions gone her way. Chaves may be the unbeaten fighter in this match up but she has yet to produce a performance that has impressed me in the way Judice has.
I see “Crispy” teeing off on Chaves here, either winning a dominant decision through volume or catching her with a fight ending shot in the striking exchanges.
Prediction: Carli Judice to win
