Jamall Emmers: Muay Thai striker looking to get three in a row
Jamall Emmers (22-8) is 37 and in decent shape, stopping Gabriel Miranda inside a round in Mexico City before outpointing Hyder Amil last November to build a two-fight streak and a 5-4 promotional record. Emmers fights long behind straight shots, stays light on his feet and carries his hands pawed up in a loose Muay Thai frame, though he doesn’t stand as square as a typical Muay Thai stance. He counters well and has good timing on his level changes. The worry is what happens in a firefight, three career knockout losses tell that story.
Lerryan Douglas: “The Gunslinger” brings firepower to the card
Lerryan Douglas (14-5) rides a six-fight knockout streak into his second octagon appearance. The 31-year-old Brazilian claimed the LFA interim featherweight title against Javier Reyes, unified it by stopping Elijah Johns, then needed just 36 seconds to KO Cam Teague on the Contender Series. His debut was even better to watch, dismantling Julian Erosa in his backyard at UFC Seattle, dropping him twice with jabs before closing the show out later that round. Gunslinger fights orthodox, patient, and he puts his entire body into everything he throws.
Jamall Emmers vs Lerryan Douglas prediction
The opening exchanges should settle this fight. Douglas doesn’t rush anything, he stalks, slams the calf kick and waits for his moment, rarely stringing more than three shots together unless he already has someone hurt. The patience should suit him well here, because Emmers will probably come to him.
Emmers’s hands are not the quickest once he commits to boxing, and he throws his hooks from too wide with a loose guard. Against a counter puncher who slips off the centre line and returns over the top with the right hand, that’s a dangerous set of habits. The Muay Thai specialist doesn’t use much head movement in exchanges either, defending well when he’s in a defensive mindset and getting tagged when he isn’t.
The Landwehr finish over Emmers seems to be the blueprint for Douglas. Emmers got compromised by an uppercut, reached out loosely for a clinch instinctually, and Landwehr framed off and put a shot straight over the top of those outstretched hands. Douglas throws shorter and considerably harder. If that reflex shows up on Saturday, this ends early.
Prediction: Lerryan Douglas to win by KO/TKO in round one.
