Jasmine Jasudavicius: Can the Canadian veteran bounce back from a disappointing loss in her last appearance?

A five fight win streak with three submission finishes had Jasmine Jasudavicius (14-4) knocking on the door of title contention at 125 pounds, only for the Canadian’s momentum to be halted by a nasty first round TKO defeat to Manon Fiorot in her last appearance. A superb grappler with excellent takedown ability and suffocating top control, the Canadian’s striking isn’t the best in the division, but is typically more than serviceable enough to allow her to close the distance to work her wrestling. She’s only ever lost to ranked levels of competition throughout her time in the promotion, dropping decisions to Tracy Cortez and current No.1 contender, Natalia Silva.

Karine Silva: Will "Killer" rediscover the form of her early UFC days as a sizable underdog?

Fighting Nerds’ standout, Karine Silva (19-6) makes her return after coming up short to Maycee Barber by decision in her most recent appearance. Earning a UFC contract on the Contender Series back in 2021, “Killer” would proceed to reel off a four fight win streak that included three successive first round submission victories, before running into Viviane Araujo at UFC 309. However, while she would sandwich a victory over Dione Barbosa between her losses to Araujo and Barber, there’s a solid argument to be made that she should be 0-3 after her streaking start to life in the promotion, with many decrying her victory over “The Witch” as daylight robbery.

Jasmine Jasudavicius vs Karine Silva prediction

It’s easy to write Jasudavicius off given the nature of her last appearance against Fiorot, but she still looks to be a pretty safe pick here. The Canadian has largely run riot over anybody outside of elite contenders at flyweight and is one of the best pure grapplers that the division has to offer.

By contrast, not only is Silva the smaller woman in this matchup, she’s notably struggled with grapplers who arguably aren’t on Jasudavicius’ level in the past. While she’s had her moments in recent matchups, she also looks to have lost a step since joining the promotion on an absolute tear of brutal stoppages and seemingly doesn’t pose the same finishing threat she once did.

Furthermore, outside of some cans on the regional scene during the infancy of her career, Silva has never been a KO artist; she’s primarily proven to be a submission threat as she’s evolved and taken on better opponents. There’s always the chance that she catches the Canadian in something during the early goings when they’re both dry, but considering that Jasudavicius has never been submitted, I wouldn’t count on it. Silva’s tendency to throw up submissions from the bottom could even prove to be detrimental, allowing Jasudavicius to establish a more dominant position to land spiteful ground and pound.

Silva is too tough and experienced to get finished, but Jasudavicius takes a dominant decision victory in front of her home crowd to bounce back.

Prediction: Jasmine Jasudivicius to win by decision
