Levski Sofia hammered Borac Banka Luka by five goals to one on aggregate in the first qualifying round. The Bulgarians then edged past Romanian champions Universitatea Craiova, drawing the away leg once again after they had won 1-0 in the Bulgarian capital city in the first-leg.
Last season, having defeated the likes of Slovan Bratislava and Celtic, both on penalties, Kairat managed to become the most Eastern team to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Kairat earned themselves another win from the spot at home in the second qualifying round this season, defeating Cypriot champions Omonia Nicosia last week
