Dustin Jacoby vs Bruno Lopes prediction
Dustin Jacoby (20-9-1) got a much-needed victory last time out against Vitor Petrino as he had lost four of his previous five fights. Jacoby’s strong start to life in the UFC – six wins and a draw – led to bouts against some strong opponents and he was ultimately found wanting at the higher level as he lost to the likes of Khalil Rountree Jr, Alonzo Menifeld and Dominick Reyes.
He is a talented fighter in the light heavyweight division however even if he is unlikely to trouble the top 15, especially at this stage of his career. He will however know that he needs to keep winning, or at the absolute minimum to be entertaining, if he is to keep getting decent fights.
He takes on Brazilian Bruno Lopes (14-1) who is a graduate of Dana White’s Contender Series in August last year. He has built his career and impressive-looking record outside of the Octagon so there will be a degree of pressure now to see if he can live up to expectation.
The matchmakers have paired him off against a wily veteran in Jacoby which will provide the toughest test of his career to date. He managed to get a win on his UFC debut last time out against Magomed Gadzhiyasulov who he beat via unanimous decision.
This is a tough one for him however and one he will have to be at his best for as Jacoby is no pushover and comes in as strong favourite. We are dubious about the odds here and would prefer the value on the more unknown Lopes than backing the average Jacoby at such low odds.
Our preferred play is on this fight not going the distance. Lopes’ only loss came by knockout and Jacoby has been stopped four times in his career including a recent knockout by Dominick Reyes. We like the chances of a stoppage in this one.
Prediction: Fight not to go the distance
