Cruz Azul have begun the new Liga MX season well with two wins from three and backed that up with a hard-fought 1-0 win in their opening Leagues Cup game against Philadelphia Union. As for New York City, since the World Cup break, they’ve come back in excellent shape, picking up seven points from a possible nine in MLS and beating Santos Laguna in the Leagues Cup.
Two well-matched sides, NYCFC are a force offensively, scoring at least twice in all bar one of their four matches post World Cup. But clean sheets have been harder to come by and against a team of Cruz Azul’s quality, it’s hard to see that changing.
